Fukiko Takase

Fukiko Takase is an internationally acclaimed dancer, choreographer, and educator whose work brings together contemporary dance, music, and visual art through cross-cultural collaboration. Born in New York and raised in Japan, she trained in Japan before continuing her studies at Codarts Rotterdam Dance Academy and London Contemporary Dance School as a recipient of a Japanese Government Cultural Affairs Fellowship.

She has performed with leading companies including Henri Oguike Dance Company, Company Wayne McGregor, and Akram Khan Company, and has collaborated with artists such as Thom Yorke, Dustin O’Halloran, United Visual Artist, Hikaru Utada, Olafur Eliasson, Gareth Pugh and Danny Boyle.

As a choreographer, her work spans stage, film, and music, including most recently UVA’s Hidden Order at Casa Batllo by Antoni Gaudi, Nina Simone’s Please Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood and Utada’s Pappaparadise. In 2022, she was appointed Honourable Professor at Shikoku University, where she created UMITOKAMI, an interdisciplinary work combining contemporary dance with traditional Japanese music and Joruri puppet theatre. Fukiko continues to create, perform, and mentor internationally, strengthening artistic exchange between the UK and Japan. In recent years she has been collaborating with Clod Ensemble, Neon Dance as a dance artist, further establishing her as a leading voice in contemporary dance.
