Vicky Barrett
Vicky Barrett has worked in the creative and legal industries throughout her career. After studying music at Oxford University and conservatoires in London and the Netherlands, she started her working life as a freelance orchestral oboist, playing with regional and London orchestras, West End shows and touring ballet companies. Vicky then moved into artists’ management at HarrisonParrott, working with internationally renowned classical soloists and conductors. A growing fascination with the language of contracts led her to a degree in law and then qualification as a solicitor with entertainment and media law firm The Simkins Partnership.
After a period at the Music Publishers’ Association Vicky established her own legal consultancy VLT Legal in 2007, providing legal services in relation to all aspects of copyrights, digital rights, licensing and brand protection. VLT Legal’s clients in the music and creative industries have ranged from individual artists, education providers and conservatoires to arts management and dance companies, music publishers, orchestras and music industry trade bodies.
In her spare time, Vicky plays the oboe with many groups and is very involved in management of the Covent Garden Chamber Orchestra, a non-professional group based in central London.
